A high-level African Union panel received by the AFC/M23 leadership in Goma
The AFC/M23 has so far shown genuine commitment and good faith toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the DRC, particularly in addressing its root causes. Unfortunately, on the other side, the Tshisekedi regime in Kinshasa is reaping political and economic gains from the war and the country's instability.
A delegation from the African Union Panel of Facilitators arrived in Goma on Monday, October 5, 2026, for talks with the top leadership of the AFC/M23, a Congolese political-military movement.
The delegation includes former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, former Botswanan president Mokgweetsi Masisi and former Ethiopian president Sahle-Work Zewde.
The facilitators met the AFC/M23's political coordinator, Corneille Nangaa, and his deputies, Bertrand Bisimwa and Freddy Kaniki, for a high-level meeting on the peace process in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The tour by the African Union mediators is part of a regional diplomatic push to find a way out of the security crisis in the area.
It should be noted that the AFC/M23 has shown great flexibility from the outset toward African and international mediation efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement of the crisis in the DRC, one that addresses the root causes of the conflict.
Unfortunately, the Congolese government has opted for a warmongering line and is determined to continue the war at all costs. As proof, Kinshasa has sabotaged every resolution agreed during the various rounds of negotiations. It continues to violate the ceasefire and to shell densely populated areas where innocent civilians live, among other abuses.
“Above all, the African Union will have to exert heavy pressure on the Kinshasa government, which is exploiting the war and the massacres of innocent civilians in the east for political ends. Otherwise, the effort will be a waste of time: the AFC/M23 has made repeated gestures of good faith, but Kinshasa persists in its trickery and bad faith.”
