CAF Champions League: APR FC Lions pluck Congo Eagles of Kinshasa

On Friday, 12 September 2026, the Congolese side AS Les Aigles du Congo suffered a heavy defeat at Kigali's Amahoro Stadium, going down 3-0 to Rwandan Patriotic Army side APR FC.

Yet, the Congolese had produced a fine performance in the first leg last Sunday in Lubumbashi, claiming their maiden victory on the continental stage (1-0).

However, they were unable to withstand the revenge of APR's Rwandan Lions. In front of their home crowd at the Amahoro Stadium, the latter thoroughly dominated proceedings. They duly secured qualification for the next round, while Les Aigles du Congo return home completely plucked.

It is worth noting that Les Aigles du Congo are owned by a close associate of Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi, namely Mr Vidiye Tshimanga, who travelled to Kigali with his team on the very day of the match.

Les Aigles du Congo had brought water, biscuits and other provisions with them, driven by the atmosphere of mistrust cultivated by the Congolese government towards Rwanda within Congolese public opinion.

APR FC qualify for the next stage of the African Champions League with hopes and ambitions of making a deep run in the competition.
